orange algae problem
We were having issues with algae.
I would clean the tank glass.
Do water changes.
Nothing worked.
It just is getting worse.
I had to talk to a chatgpt again.
I pulled up the app and types:
“How do I get rid of orange algae in an aquarium tank?”
“The answer I got was already everything I was doing.”
“There had to be something else.” I thought
So I typed again.
“I already did all that.”
The next answer is the solution.
Bottom feeder, called algae eaters.
That was the answer.
We had to go to the aquatic store and buy some algae eaters.
We got in the car and drove 40 minutes to our favorite fish store.
I walked around the store.
There were so many fish.
We spotted these little energetic algae eaters.
Again we ask,
“Are these guys ok in a 20 gallon tank with tetras?”
We still didn’t know we didn't have a 10 gallon tank.
So we were still asking the same question.
The guys say “yes”
“They just mind their own business!”
This answer.
We would later laugh at.
We get in the car and drive home.
We get home.
Plop the bag in the tank.
Wait 30 minutes.
At this point we learned how to transfer them from bag to tank.
Fight with the knot.
Keep the bag open in the tank.
Lower the net into the bag.
Try not to squish them.
Scoop one at a time into the tank.
We sat and watched them.
We noticed.
They were getting right to work.
The tetras started acting weird.
Should have been our sign.
But.
We let the algae eaters get to work.
We could see trails of their mouths through the algae.
We thought this was so cool.
They were eating the tank clean.
“We thought these were the best fish ever.”
The tank after two days was now spotless.
One morning we turned the tank lights on.
Say Hi to them like every morning.
Sit and watch them.
When we notice.
Our tetras fins looked like they had got a bite taking off them.
“They just grew their fins back.”
“What is going on?” We thought.
Then we saw it.
The algae eater swam up.
On top of a tetra and bite her fin.
Lily and I yelled,
“Get off of her!”
Then he went to another!
We yelled.
“Knock it off!”
But they did not stop.
We turned the tank lights off in hopes they wouldn’t be able to see them.
We took time to think.
After some thought,
We decided we had to return them
We could not lose a fish.
