Not another tragedy

It was another day.

Another chat with the fish.

Another attendance taken.

Lily started to say out loud.

“Yellow fish?” here

“Little blue” here

“Big blue” here

“Pink Fish?” here

“White fish” and we count

One, two, three, four.

And one frog.

Ok we got them all.

Lily and I sat together to watch the fish.

We started talking to them.

“How are you feeling today guys?”

“Still struggling to swim.. Huh?”

“I’m so sorry guys!”

Of course not one responded.

We continued to sit and watch them.

“I feel so bad for them” Lily said

The fish became more than fish to us.

They were part of our family now!

We didn't have to sit for long before realizing.

One of the white fish is going backwards.

He was getting sucked into the current.

It was obvious he was weak.

We yell at him,

“No!! You can do it!! Swim!

Before we knew it he was stuck to the filter tube.

We didn't know what to do!

He was trying to swim off the tube but he could not do it.

We were frantic.

I yelled to Shane, who was sitting on the couch.

“He can't swim, what do we do?” I yelled in worry.

He responded with a dull tone,

“I don't know, he’s still moving, he's not dead so leave him.”

We could not, we needed to help him,

Lily yells “help him off the filter.”

Shane says,

“Lower the filter, the current is probably too strong.

I turn the filter down.

We watched again.

He still can't swim off the tube.

I had to help him. I said out loud.

Shane shouts,

"Just leave him alone!"

I yell back.

NO! he's can get off the filter! He needs help!

I take the net, stick it in the tank slowly, then gently get him off the tube and move him to the other side of the tank.

We watched,

He tried so hard to swim he but he just couldn't,

He went upside down, and flopped around.

Before we knew it, he was sucked to the filter again.

We couldn't do anything but watch him take his last breath.

He was on the filter for a quite a bit before, he stopped moving.

We looked close.

Watched to wait for his gills to move!

But after a while we knew he was gone.

Lily and I just looked at each other.

I didn't know what we were doing wrong.

Never imagined we would lose every fish we had.

I was nervous about what fish would be next!
